Is Slumdog Millionaire the worst film to have one so many Oscars?

It’s one of the most overrated and over hyped movies ever. I don’t get what was so great about Slumdog Millionaire, I fell asleep half way through it. And yet it managed to beat off great films like Benjamin Button and The Dark Knight. I think it’s probably the worst film to have won so many Oscars.

Yes because the ‘stars’ of the movie despite having made millions at the box office were left to rot in the same slums they were filming. This was purely to make money, much as the whole republican political system is. Appeal to the poverty stricken then abandon them once the people in power make enough money.
All it was is different. I thought it was very over-rated, but when ever I mentioned it people jumped all over me and said I didn’t know what I was talking about.
It’s your opinion. The Academy had a different opinion.
It would be interesting to know the criteria that the Academy members use to grade films. Just as you may think that Benjamin Button and Dark Knight are great films some other people would say other different films are better.
Art not absolute in my view. Movies, as an art, could not be absolute either. It’s a matter of preferences, although I am sure there are technical aspects that are not relative at all, like photography, music, etc.
Everyone has their opinions. I thought it was a great movie because the concept was brilliant. You might think differently, but it deserved those Oscars. It was a very heart-touching movie in my opinion, but that’s just me.

The dark knight and Benjamin button were good movies too… But I though slumdog millionaire was a reallyyyy good movie…one of the best i’ve seen. It makes you really see what othe parts of the world look like and the plot was very creative. I admit it was boring at some parts but it would surprise you with more action when you started to get the tiniest bit bored. I love the movie and think it definetly deserved it’s oscars.
We all have our own opinions…I personally, like the film…However, I do not think that it deserved Best Picture…In my opinion, Best Picture should have gone to Milk.
I think that anyone who spells “won” as “one” doesn’t get a vote for a reason. If you fell asleep halfway through it, that also means that you shouldn’t state an opinion. I fell asleep during The Dark Knight, and then I rewatched it and realized that it actually is a great movie.

i loved Slumdog Millionaire. i was weary to see due to all the hype, but it was one the few movie that did live up to its hype in my eyes. the story was simple but well anchored with some solid characters and acting. the movie was filled with lush visuals that seemed to bring out both the grit and grime of poverty and the colour and energy of romance and wishes. and i thought the soundtrack was modern and well timed with the movement of the story. i dont know what oscars this film won, but i think it was well deserved of any nominations it received.
as for the dark knight. another movie that lived up to all the hype, and it had much more hype than slumdog. dark knight’s chance as an oscar were slim as the academy tends to snub action films, particularly one based on a comic book.
the curious case of benjamin button. i found this bore. it had great special/cgi effects, but the characters were bland and didn’t carry the story forward strongly enough. i dont care if it was cate blanchet and brad pitt. the movie had some really good moments, but it dragged in so many other places. i could have dozed off in this movie. i will say i did enjoy the score for this film. it was a great little drama film musical score, sweeping and sensitive.
i’ve never placed much value on the academy awards. they always veer toward standard live action straight-up dramas for their major awards. it’s a very narrow way of looking at the entire spectrum of films released each year. they’ve awarded worse movies and shunned better in the past.
this year, they’ve apparently nominated 10 films for best film rather than the usual 5 films. i don’t see it as a reflection of a extra good batch of movies in 2009. i take it as a sign that the academy is losing grip on its values and criteria of a good movie. that said, maybe it’s a sign that they’re finally expanding their eyes to movies of other genres (aside from drama). who knows?

I totally agree with you.I took my little niece and fell asleep after 20 minutes….thats how good it was!!
